What is Mindfulness?
Mindfulness is the experience of being awake and alive, here and now, aware of our sensations, thoughts, and emotions. And from this awareness, a consciously chosen possibility emerges to respond with gentleness, kindness, compassion, and love.
Who Should Enroll?
MBSR is suitable for anyone interested in mindfulness practices. Great for beginners and refreshing for advanced meditators.
The program is designed for adults who are eager to explore how mindfulness can be applied in their lives. The skills are simple and easy to learn. No required any previous meditation experience.
MBSR is globally recognized as more of a complementary approach to medical and psychological treatments rather than a replacement for them. It has proven to be effective in helping individuals dealing with anxiety, work-related stress, family issues, financial situations, cancer, chronic conditions and pain, depression, eating disorders, fatigue, grief, headaches, heart conditions, high blood pressure, panic attacks, post-traumatic stress disorders, and sleep disorders.
What to expect?
- Increasing awareness through the development of a personalized mindfulness training practice, intentionally directing attention to the experience of each moment.
- Integrating attitudes of curiosity, receptivity, and empathetic/compassionate understanding towards our surroundings.
- Cultivating the option to step off "autopilot" and the tiring and overwhelming tendency of constant "doing" to create space for "being."
- Discovering our patterns of thinking and feeling and responding to stress in new, creative ways.
- Developing skills that will help us remain open to whatever we experience, whether positive or negative, pleasant, unpleasant, or neutral. This allows us to respond to situations more attentively and from a state of presence, rather than reacting in difficult-to-control ways.
- We will find that we can relate to our experience in a peace-inducing manner without resisting challenging situations that we cannot change.
- For those aspiring to become MBSR instructors, this format is accepted as an initial step in MBSR Teacher Training programs.
How is MBSR organized?
- It is organized in the form of a workshop, involving a group of up to 12 participants who meet once a week, online via Zoom, over a duration of 8 weeks, in sessions of 2.5 hours each. Additionally, there is an extra day for a retreat in the second part of the program, the date of which will be determined collaboratively with the group.
- Every week, participants are required to engage in daily practice at home, outside of the actual meeting day. This practice involves doing the meditations used in that specific week, sent by the trainer in audio format (mp3). This daily activity takes between 30 to 45 minutes each day (formal + informal practices). These daily practices contribute to an experiential learning for the participants.
- Home practice plays a crucial role in the course dynamics, so I warmly recommend considering whether you can commit to a practice of approximately 45 minutes/day. Mindfulness is an experiential practice; the benefits are observed through practice, not through intellectual activities like reading or learning. To support your home practice, I will send you an email at the beginning of the course with Participant Material, and each week you will receive recordings of the meditation(s) to practice for that week. Home practice involves listening to guided meditations sent by the trainer (formal practices), self-reflection and note-taking about your experience, as well as practicing informal activities (eating mindfully, walking mindfully, etc.).
